A few quick questions — even partial answers help:
- What is the site doing? Completely down, showing an error message, loading slowly, displaying broken content?
- When did you first notice the problem? Do you have a rough date or timeframe?
- When did you last see the site working normally?
- Are your hosting and domain renewal bills current? Has anything lapsed or expired recently?
- Have any changes been made recently — new plugins, theme updates, content edits, password changes?
- Is there another developer or agency who has been actively working on the site?
- Is there an error message on screen? A screenshot or copy of the exact error text is extremely helpful.
- Do you have recent backups of the site? Do you know if automatic backups were running?
- Do you have a list of everywhere you pay for website-related services? (hosting, domain, SSL, email, plugins, etc.)
🔑 What I'll Need From You
Every website runs on a few separate accounts — your domain registrar, your web host, and your website platform. I'll likely need access to all three. Don't worry if you're not sure where everything is — share what you know and we'll sort out the rest.
1. Your Domain Registrar
This is where you registered your domain name (e.g., yourbusiness.com) and pay a yearly renewal — usually $10–$20/year. Not always the same company as your web host. I'll need login access or to be added as a delegate/user so I can check DNS settings and nameservers if needed.
Not sure who your registrar is? Go to
lookup.icann.org or
whois.com, type in your domain name, and look for the "Registrar" field.

2. Your Web Hosting Account
This is where your website files actually live — the server your site is served from. You pay a monthly or yearly fee here. Sometimes the same company as your registrar (especially GoDaddy), but often separate. I'll need login credentials or to be added as a hosting account user so I can access your control panel (cPanel, Plesk, etc.).
Not sure who hosts your site? Check your email inbox for hosting invoices, or go to
whoishostingthis.com and type in your domain name.
Common web hosts — click to log in:
3. Your Website Platform Login
This is the backend of your actual website — where content is edited and plugins are managed. For WordPress, this is typically yourdomain.com/wp-admin. For website builders, it's your account login for that service. I'll need an Administrator-level login. Creating a temporary admin account just for me is totally fine — and preferred.
WordPress.org vs WordPress.com? If you pay a hosting company (GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc.) and log in at yourdomain.com/wp-admin, that's self-hosted WordPress.org. If you pay wordpress.com directly, that's a different system. And if you used a website builder (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy Builder), your login for that service IS your platform login — no separate backend.
